It’s a Grand Night for Singing! 2011
We performed the wonderful melodies and lyrics of Rodgers and Hammerstein – a staged performance of excerpts from the following shows: Carousel, Cinderella, The King and I, Oklahoma, South Pacific and Sound of Music.
Musical and stage direction: Elisabeth Pomès
General Stage Direction: Christopher Sharp
Pianist: Marie-Line Ross
Every couple of years, Elisabeth, her good friend and collaborator Christopher Sharp, and their trusted friend and accompanist Marie-Line Ross, put on a themed show to give the students in her studio, and sometimes lucky studio alumni like me, a chance to experience staged vocal performance. This year’s show featured songs from the music of Rodgers & Hammerstein. As usual, the show featured an entertaining mix of staged solo, duet and choral numbers: a mix that gave each member of the cast a chance to show off to best advantage. Given that the studio features singers of quite various ages, experience and current abilities, this was a challenge and an achievement. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to work again with Elisabeth, Christopher and Marie-Line. (I’m especially grateful that they tolerated my wish to do a rap version of “Some Enchanted Evening.”) I hope to be able to work with them again. ~Kerry Wilkins
I have made so many friends through Elisabeth’s performance class. It is always fun, creative and memorable. Singing makes me feel so much better. I look forward to the next show. Performing in front of an audience also gives me confidence I can apply in the business world.” ~William Moyer
I am happy to say the show was a wonderful experience, lots of fun and energy with a great company of talented performers. ~Mae Scatliff
