The Individuation Process
An Exploration of Central Station (Walter Salles, 1998)
In the film Central Station a cynical, joyless woman (Dora) crosses paths with a lonely boy (Josue) who is looking for his father. Together, they go on a long journey into places geographically and psychologically unknown to them.
Individuation is a process rather than a final product, a journey of self-discovery rather than a final destination, a circumambulation rather than a straight trajectory. It is a process informed by the archetypal idea of wholeness that transcends consciousness, the archetype of the Self. Central Station deals with such a journey.
This seminar explores how the Self manifests in tragic circumstances within this film, following the process of Individuation through the character of Dora. After watching the movie, participants are involved in a discussion of film themes related to the Individuation Process: meeting with the Shadow, answering the call, dealing with crisis, the manifestation of the transcendent, the renewal through the child archetype and the theme of sacrifice: finding the treasure and letting it go.

Dans le film Central Station, Dora, une femme triste et cynique, rencontre Josue, un jeune garçon, seul, à la recherche de son père. Dora et Josue partent pour un long voyage vers des territoires inconnus – territoires géographiques autant que psychologiques.
L'individuation est un processus plutôt qu'un produit final, un voyage de découverte de soi plutôt qu'une destination finale, une circumambulation plutôt qu'une trajectoire rectiligne. C'est un processus informé par l'idée archétypale de la plénitude qui transcende la conscience, l'archétype du Soi. Central Station nous dépeint un tel voyage.
Ce séminaire explore comment le Soi se manifeste dans des circonstances tragiques au sein de ce film, en suivant le processus d'Individuation à travers le personnage de Dora. Après avoir regardé le film, les participants sont invités à prendre part à une discussion sur les thèmes du film liés au processus d'Individuation: la rencontre avec l'Ombre, répondre à l'appel, gérer la crise, la manifestation du Transcendant, le renouveau à travers l'archétype de l'enfant et le thème du sacrifice: trouver le trésor et le laisser partir.
